Tonawanda News — SARANAC — Northern Adirondack came out strong against Saranac in the first quarter, taking a 14-8 lead.

The Chiefs, though, regrouped and outscored the Bobcats 15-1 in the second quarter to capture an eventual 50-34 victory in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls’ basketball Tuesday.

“Northern Adirondack is really improved,” Saranac coach Tim Newell said. “Coach (Jessica) Barnhart has done a nice job with that program.

“They got us on our heals in the first quarter and we had to refocus and make some changes defensively.”

Kayla Napper had a great all-around game for the Chiefs with a game-high 17 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

Summer Gillespie chipped in with 11 points, while Kaitlyn Bowman finished with 10 points, six rebounds and six steals.

“I thought we had great balance in our scoring,” Newell said. “We are sharing the ball well and again had some players step up, which is really showing our depth.”

Magan Magee led the way for the Bobcats with 15 points. Rachael Venne chipped in with 10 points.
