Tonawanda News — The Buffalo Bisons (31-32) fell to the Toledo Mud Hens 11-0 Thursday where the Bisons’ front office was busier than normal.
Earlier Thursday, the Bisons announced the call up of top pitching prospect Aaron Sanchez and outfielder Melky Mesa from the Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate New Hampshire. The Blue Jays also traded outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo, released pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith and demoted Kenny Wilson and Gregory Infante.
Outfielder Colby Rasmus, who has nine home runs and in 37 games with the Blue Jays this season, started a rehab assignment with the Bisons Thursday as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
The Mud Hens (32-35) got on the board early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Hernan Perez hit a double that scored fellow Mud Hen Ezequiel Carrera. He was then brought home by a Ben Guez single.
The Mud Hens added two more in the third. Guez hit a 2-run home run.
Toledo ran away with the game in the sixth, striking for six runs to put the lead at 10-0.
The Mud Hens added one more in the seventh.
Chad Smith(3-2) got the win on the mound, striking out four over two innings pitched. He was one of four pitchers that took the mound for the Mud Hens.
Sean Nolin (2-3) suffered the loss for the Bisons.
The teams will meet today again at 7 p.m. today in Toledo.
