Tonawanda News — Shawn Hill, who was called up to the Buffalo Bisons from Class AA New Hampshire, took the loss in his first start for the Herd on Wednesday, as the Bisons fell to the host Gwinnett Braves, 5-0.
Hill, who surrendered all the runs as well as six hits, couldn’t entirely be faulted, as the Bisons offense missed on its opportunities to score. The team went 1-for-8 when runners were in scoring position and left six men on base.
Ryan Gions and Ryan Schimpf getting two hits apiece, while the Bisons collectively picked up seven hits throughout the game.
The Braves scored their first two runs in the bottom of the first. Gwinnett’s Todd Cunningham hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning while teammate Sean Kazmar hit a solo shot in the sixth to close out the Braves’ scoring.
Cody Martin (3-2) picked up the win.
The Bisons and Braves close out the series today with a 10:35 a.m. game at Coolray Field. Sean Nolin (2-0, 1.55 ERA) is scheduled to start for Buffalo against Gwinnett’s Hector Daniel Rodriguez (3-3, 2.73 ERA).
