Tonawanda News — The Buffalo Bisons were officially eliminated from contention for the International League North division title with their 5-2 loss to the Rochester Red Wings at Coca Cola Field in Buffalo Wednesday night.
They still have a faint hope of making the postseason by clinching the IL’s Wild Card spot. However, their magic number — or perhaps in this case their cursed number — is two games, a combination of their losses and rivals’ wins, until they’re out of the playoffs entirely.
Rochester took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, followed by Buffalo tying the game 1-1 after two innings. The Red Wings, though, kept regaining the lead, grabbing it for good with their 3-2 lead after four innings. Insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings sent Rochester on their way to victory and put them just one half game out of the Wild Card spot, held for the moment by the Norfolk Tides.
Thad Weber (7-5) took the loss for the Herd, which hosts the Red Wings again tonight at Coca Cola Field, beginning at 6:05 p.m. Tonight’s game is Buffalo’s final home game of the regular season.
