Tonawanda News — Jim Negrych brought home the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning off Anthony Gose’s base hit, as the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Syracuse Chiefs, 4-3, at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
The Chiefs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Eury Perez tripled to immediately put himself in scoring position. He was brought home by the very next batter, Jeff Kobernus, who hit a sacrifice fly to center. Danny Espinosa got aboard with a double then came home on Corey Brown’s ground-rule double.
Espinosa then homered in the third inning to increase the Chiefs’ lead to 3-0.
Then Buffalo’s comeback began, as Mauro Gomez homered in the fourth inning to put the Bisons on the scoreboard. Andy LaRoche homered to start the fifth inning. The Herd then tied it when Gose batted home Eugenio Velez.
The game remained deadlocked at 3-3 until the top of the ninth, when Gose got his second RBI.
Brad Lincoln (2-2) got the win for the Bisons, who improved their record to 47-45.
The team travels to Lehigh Valley today to begin a two-day series against the IronPigs. The opening pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
