Canal Fest parade winners announced

— — The winners have been announced in this year’s Canal Fest parade, held Tuesday evening.

At least 21 groups, from North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels to the Queen City Roller Girls are mentioned for taking part in the annual event with custom floats, costumes and marching groups were mentioned.

Meals on Wheels was named winner of a $200 prize for best float, while the Tonawanda Clown Band won first prize for the best costumes.

The $100 first prize in the category of “cheerleaders and other non musical units” went to the Wheatfield Town Cheerleaders.

In the standard non-musical category, Front Yard Flair took the top prize.

Many runner-up awards were also distributed in the same categories.

In the float contest:

• The community prize, for $125, was awarded to the Zuleika Grotto Elite Guard, with second prize awarded to the First Presbyterian Church.

• The NT Mayor’s Award, with a cash prize of $125, went to Wee Havens Christian Preschool.

• Chute Marine took home the City of Tonawanda Mayor’s Award, worth $125. Third, fourth and fifth-place awards went to Northgate Health Care Facility, Holy Cross Head Start and The Hope Chest.

In the non-musical marching units category, second and third place honors were bestowed on the Queen City Roller Girls and In Good Company, respectively.

In the cheerleader group, North Tonawanda High School Cheerleaders took second place, with the Buffalo All Stars taking third.
