AMHERST —

Brown 7, Niagara 2

BALTIMORE — The Niagara University softball team finished second at the UMBC Classic on Sunday, falling to Brown in the championship game.

Niagara (13-7), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped in the title contest, advanced to the finals by beating Sacred Heart in the semifinals.

Niagara hit five home runs in the win over Sacred Heart, including back-to-back-to-back blasts by Felicia Coffey, Jennifer Yee and Tory Healy in the second inning.

Lisa Baker and Ashley Bognar (Cardinal O’Hara) also homered for Niagara. Brooke Viola pitched a five-hitter for the win in a game that was halted after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Niagara fell into an early 5-0 hole against Brown and never recovered. Nicole Sum went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Niagara, Yee went 3-for-4.
