WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: Writer: Bills should stay put

The rally to keep the Buffalo Bills in Western New York has at least one supporter from outside the area

Mike Burns with bleacherreport.com wrote a commentary on what he’d do if he were the NFL commissioner for a day. The second item on his list was to ensure that the Bills stay here.

“Sharing games with Toronto is and always was a bad idea,” he wrote. “While there are plenty of NFL fans in Canada most would rather take the less than two-hour drive to Buffalo for the game. In fact, most Canadians I have talked to find it is cheaper to spend a weekend in the Buffalo/ Niagara Falls area than to park and buy tickets for a game at the Rogers Centre. Also remember Buffalo is New York’s only real team and only team that pays New York state sales tax on ticket sales.”

He suggested that the Jacksonville Jaguars, who struggle weekly to sell tickets, be moved to Los Angeles instead of the Bills. And as for expanding the team’s fan base, he suggested playing one game per season (if the NFL expands the 16-game schedule to 18 games) in Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome rather than Toronto.

Everyone has seen the commercials for Paddock Chevrolet that put out the call to “Beat Dallas.”

Apparently, the competition has the same attitude about its Kenmore counterpart.

Classic Chevrolet near Dallas seeks to keep its title as top-selling Chevrolet dealer in the nation, which it’s held for three straight years, according to the (Fort Worth, Texas) Star Telegram. The Texas dealer has trailed Paddock throughout 2009, however, which has prompted the Dallas business to take the campaign to Facebook, where a scoreboard is regularly updated with sales figures.

“Classic Chevrolet has outperformed Paddock in the last quarter every year we have competed,” Hagen Durant, Classic’s general manager, told the paper. “As we begin November ... there is no doubt in my mind that we will be working on our own lead up (until) the end of December.”

North Tonawanda’s Confer Plastics Inc. came in at No. 67 on Plastic News’ annual list of the top North American blow molders.

The rankings are based on blow molding sales. Confer’s blow molding sales totaled $16 million for the most recent year, the publication said. Confer employs 125 molding employees who help make furniture, toys and industrial packaging.

Topping the list was Graham Packaging Co. of York, Pa., with sales of $2.2 billion
