The curtains are up on North Tonawanda’s first musical of the school year.
The North Tonawanda High School Drama Club presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast tonight in the North Tonawanda High School Activity Center Auditorium.
Choosing a popular musical factored into picking Beauty and the Beast, Director Dean Vallos said. Preparation began the first week of school for the musical’s massive dance and acting scenes.
“We wanted something well-known, and we definitely had the kids to pull off this play,” he said. “It will be one of the finest musicals this town has ever seen.”
Senior Madison Ackerman, playing Belle, the beauty, is nervous and excited to be cast as a strong, independent Disney character. The hard work leading to opening night has exemplified the cast’s potential, and she can’t wait to be a part of the final product, she said.
“It’s really exciting to be a part of something so huge,” she said. “It will be worth it to hear everyone’s reactions.”
Vallos said the show will last approximately two hours.
“This is a Disney favorite that is great for all ages,” he said.
The club will also perform the musical Friday and Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
