Tonawanda News — Justin Crawford scored the game-winning goal in a shootout that lifted St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute to a 3-2 win over Mt. St. Charles Academy in a tournament hosted by Mt. St. Charles in Woonsocket, RI.
Peter Chopra made 40 saves and held tough in a test that saw the teams play not only three periods but also two 7:30 overtime periods that could not determine a winner.
Dom Perna and Bryce Donovan scored for the Marauders in regulation. Donovan’s goal came on a power play with about four minutes in regulation that tied the game at 2-2.
St. Joe’s will face Bishop Guertin High School of Nashua, NH in the tournament semifinals tonight at 8 p.m. at Adelard Arena in Woonsocket.
North Tonawanda 7, Amherst 1
Sam Rydzewski scored two goals and added two assists, while Ben Rees also scored twice, as the Lumberjacks improved to 4-2 in WNY Federation Hockey following their win over the Tigers at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
West Seneca East 53, Tonawanda 51
Ben Stich netted 19 points to lead Tonawanda High School, but Dale Nicosia scored 23 points to lead the West Seneca East Trojans over the Warriors, 53-51, at the West Seneca West Tournament on Thursday.
Six of Stich’s points came from two shots from three-point range. Tristan Boling added a dozen points for the Warriors (2-3) while Connor Pumm scored 11 points.
For the Trojans (1-3), Dan Picciano scored 12 points. He, Nicosia, Nick Parucki and DJ Schiersing all scored once from three-point range.
