High Schools: Lady Jacks improve to 10-1 in volleyball

Tonawanda News — Grand Island 8, Niagara Falls 0

Marcy Barbaric and Madisyn Pezzino each had a pair of goals and Lexi Kalinowski, Carly Bernatovicz, Tiffany Melendez and Megan Thomas chipped in with goals of their own to lead the Vikings (7-1-2, 6-1-2 NFL) to an 8-0 shutout victory against the Wolverines (3-7).

Sarah Eykowicz, the Vikings' junior varsity goalkeeper, stepped in to make seven saves to preserve the shutout after the team's normal starter was injured — an impressive accomplishment to head coach Dave Bowman.

"I'm really pleased with today's outcome — we moved the ball around well and finished well — but what really stood out to me was Eykowicz stepping in on short notice and performing the way she did. That was very impressive," Bowman said. "Today's win was a total team effort."
