Tonawanda girls' soccer advances

Tonawanda News — Compeau, who scored the 96th and 97th goals of her career, put Tonawanda up 1-0 eight minutes into the second half on a play that started off a corner kick by senior Kristin Carson. Once Tonawanda drew first blood, they resisted the urge to fall into a defensive shell, as the maintained offensive pressure the rest of the night.

“They definitely came out 10 times harder once we got that first goal,” said Compeau. “We decided to play more offense because their defense was breaking down. We got them mad, they were yelling at each other and we just capitalized on our chances.”

Compeau extended the Tonawanda lead to 2-0 with 10:43 remaining when she rifled the ball up top beyond the leaping reach of Mays. Hope Balling capped off the scoring with 1:58 to play off a feed from Compeau.

Sophomore sweeper Pearl Bacon continued her strong play in the back end as the Warriors defense limited Falconer's scoring chances.

Alanna Herne made seven saves in the first half alone to secure the shutout for the Warriors.
