Warriors rebound with 5-0 baseball win

Tonawanda News — The Warriors ended a slump amidst an extraordinarily busy week, picking up a shutout win over Alden and improving their overall record to 5-6 (5-2 in ECIC IV). 

Cody McGregor pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits while striking out six. At the plate he went 2-for-3, scoring a run and hitting one home, too.

Ben Stich went 2-for-4 for the Warriors, scoring two runs. 

Tonawanda completes its busy week of five games in five days by taking on Holland this afternoon.

Niagara-Wheatfield 11, Ken West 8

Casey Gruarin picked up the win on the mound for the Falcons (5-5), while hitting a single, double and triple and picking up three RBI.

Bailey Cadwallader had a single and double for Niagara-Wheatfield and also scored three runs, stole two bases and had two RBI. Angelo Vilardo had two hits.


Nia.-Wheatfield 6, Ken West 4

Marissa Hayes pitched most of the game for the Falcons (8-1), allowing just one earned run while allowing six hits and striking our four. 

Lexi Gibson, who also pitched briefly for Niagara-Wheatfield, went 2-for-5 at the plate, hitting two doubles. Katie Mazierski went 2-for-4 including a triple and scored two runs. Morgan Kuhn also had an RBI for the winners.

Alden 9, Tonawanda 0

Becca Toth went 2-for-4 for the Warriors (4-5 overall, 4-4 ECIC), getting two hits, while Haley Slater, Sydney Myers and Maddie Oliver had one hit each.

Starpoint 2, Iroquois 1 

The Spartans’ Ashley Owens and Allison Block combined for a three-hitter and struck out eight batters as Starpoint improved to 11-1 overall and remain unbeaten in ECIC II with an 8-0 record.

Starpoint scored its game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning. Aren Schwab singled to get on base then stole second. With two outs, Tori Purucker hit a triple that brought Schwab home. Block then shut down Iroquois’s batters to preserve the win.
