NT volleyball topples Grand Island

Gabby Hanson had 14 kills and 10 digs and Kathryn Zgolak dished 12 assists for the North Tonawanda girls volleyball team, which took down Grand Island, 3-0, in a Niagara Frontier League match Tuesday night.

Leanna Metzger had seven kills and three aces for the Lady Jacks, who improved to 2-1 in league matches. They took sets by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-16.

Jill Sheehan had five aces and six digs for the Viking s (1-2).

Lockport 3, Niagara Falls 0

Alyssa Wagner had seven kills and Sara Franco recorded three blocks as the Lions (2-1) defeated the Wolverines (2-1) in sets of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. Toni Polk had 15 digs for the Wolverines.

Nia.-Wheatfield 3, Ken East 0

The Falcons (3-1, 3-0 NFL) defeated the Bulldogs (1-2) in sets of 20-25, 14-25 and 16-25. Kelsey Yeates recorded three aces and 18 assists, Katie Mazierski had five kills and Kailie Sonnenberg added eight kills for the Falcons.

Ken West 3, Lew-Port 2

Morgan Boss had 12 assists, five digs and three aces as the Lancers (0-3) fell to the Blue Devils (1-2). Dana Manusco chipped in with six aces, nine digs and 12 kills for the Blue Devils.


Nia.-Wheatfield 106, Niagara Falls 70

Sally Rozumalski won the 200- and 500-meter freestyles for the Falcons in an exhibition meet. Jessica Evans won the 100 butterfly for the Wolverines.

Grand Island 127, North Tonawanda 37

In an NFL exhibition, the Vikings’ Kady Liesenfeld won the 200-meter freestyle and the 100 butterfly while contributing to wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Anya Fike took the 100 freestyle for the Lady Jacks.


Grand Island 3, North Tonawanda 0

Brock Petreault recorded 16 kills and Mike Peaternostro had three kills and five blocks for the Vikings (1-0) as they downed the Lumberjacks (0-1) in sets of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-19. Victor Wilson contributed with seven kills and Joe Piotrowski added 10 assists for the Lumberjacks.


Depew 5, Tonawanda 2

Dylan Lewis and Bob Liebel scored for the Warriors (0-5, 0-2 ECIC IV).


Niagara Falls 5, O’Hara 0

Mallory Garabetian led the Wolverines with a hat trick and Lauren Flinchum and Ashley Suess added a goal apiece as the Wolverines (2-1) beat the Hawks (0-2). Justine Perreault had eight saves in her second shutout of the season.


Nia.-Wheatfield 272, Grand Island 286

Kevin Borowicz medalled for the Vikings (1-1 NFL), shooting a 38, while Carson Suffoletta added a 42. N-W improves to 2-1 in the league.
