CANDIDATE LETTER: NT council needs fresh perspective

Tonawanda News — My name is Beverly (Carere) Loxterman and I am running for Alderman at Large in the City of North Tonawanda. I was born and raised in North Tonawanda, am a property owner and have a strong devotion for this community through my volunteer efforts throughout the years. I graduated from NTHS, NCCC and UB. I am currently on the Board of Directors for Zonta and the YWCA of the Tonawandas, the Gateway Harbor Committee of the Tonawandas, the Economic Development Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas. In 2012 I had the honor of being named one of the Women of Distinction from the Tonawanda News. This year I have been named the Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.

There has been a tremendous amount of progress the past 12 years through the cumulative effort of three mayors and bipartisan city councils to highlight NT’s assets to private business and people who had the vision to see productive uses for buildings such as Remington Rand and Buffalo Bolt. You can’t play politics with revitalization. That is why I will work with anyone, regardless of political affiliation, whose agenda is for the betterment and advancement of North Tonawanda. I am not a politician and have never run for political office before. I am not beholden to anyone or any organization. The North Tonawanda City Council needs a new, fresh perspective and that is why I am stepping up to the plate with my motivation and dedication to work together to make North Tonawanda better than it’s ever been.

I want to be the Alderman at Large because I want to make NT the kind of place where people want to start businesses not only downtown but throughout the entire city. I want to make NT the kind of city where people want to move to and put down roots. Too accomplish this we need to find ways to cut taxes and water bills so people can afford to live here. Let’s all work together to make this a reality.

I worked hard to receive 23 endorsements, which include political parties, unions, labor councils, local laborers and the Women’s TAP (Taking Action in Politics) Fund. I am honored and humbled to have received all these endorsements. It is my sincere intention to work hard for the citizens of North Tonawanda and those organizations who supported me.

Please make your vote count on Nov. 5 by supporting me.

Beverly Loxterman

Candidate, At-Large
