Tonawanda News — Congratulations on another milestone in your decades of hard work and persistence in insuring that today’s generation and future ones will always remember North Tonawanda’s carrousel manufacturing history!
The “merry-go-rounds” at field days and Crystal Beach, and later at Glen Park, Fantasy Island and other amusement parks my family and I visited in years past were always my favorite rides. The imagination could take me off the horse into whatever fantasy I wanted to be in while riding the carrousel horse. I never could understand why anyone wanted to sit in the seats instead of mounting a steed.
Thank you to Rae and Chuck Proefrock for their dedication to preserving that marvelous part of our city’s industrial heritage. I am perhaps the only one in the city besides your board members and volunteers who have been with you from the beginning who can totally appreciate all that you have done — and all that it took to get to today!
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and its more than 7,000 members, supporters and volunteers of the North Tonawanda History Museum, sincere thanks for all that you have done and continue to do to preserve the history of our community. Our exhibit on the Sweeney locations where part of your carrousel history took place in our Erie Canal Exhibit Hall refers our visitors to you for the entire wonderful story of what I will always refer to as “merry-go-rounds.”
