NORTH TONAWANDA: Summer Blast-Off offers, fun, special drawing, parade

“Summer Blast-Off,” a special event to signal the start of summer, is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Payne Park on Payne Avenue, North Tonawanda.
The event will begin with a parade starting at Humphrey Street and Payne Avenue.
Sponsored by the North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation & Parks, the free event includes pony rides, bounce house, arts and crafts, Jell-O eating contest, music, games, and more.
Free hot dogs and refreshments for youth age 17 and under will also be served. Adults will be asked for a donation of $1 for hot dogs, with all proceeds going toward the fundraising efforts of the Youth Board’s high school scholarship fund.
The parade will highlight youth participants in a variety of the recreation department’s programs, including youth softball, the Baton Squad, youth center cheerleading and dance teams, Start Smart baseball participants, as well as soccer clinic and Little People’s participants.
Special guests include the North Tonawanda Fire Department, NT Professional Firefighters 1333, the police department and Mayor Larry Soos.
An informational table will be set up at the Summer Blast-Off for sign-ups on all summer programs including swimming lessons, youth center activities, tennis lessons, golf clinic, Little People’s recreation programs, playground events, sports programs and other upcoming activities.
In conjunction with the event Matt’s Music in North Tonawanda will sponsor an electric guitar package giveaway. All children attending the Summer-Blast Off will be able to enter a free drawing for the package, which includes a Main Street red electric guitar, a carrying bag, guitar strap, cable, amp and guitar picks. In addition, all children will receive a coupon for a free music lesson.
