TWIN CITIES: Music to precede fireworks

Staff Reports
The Tonawanda News

The Sugar ‘N Jazz Orchestra and Rip & the Band Dogs are scheduled to perform in the City of Tonawanda as part of Friday night’s fireworks festivities for the Twin Cities.

The 12th annual Tonawanda-North Tonawanda fireworks display will begin at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday, and will be fired from Tonawanda Island in North Tonawanda. A barge will not be used for this year’s display.

Spectators are invited to watch the 25-minute show from all area parks and downtown spots.

As part of the evening’s entertainment, the Sugar ‘N Jazz Orchestra will play the David Miller Bandshell in Niawanda Park at 7 p.m., while Rip & the Band Dogs will rock out at Gateway Harbor Park on Young Street, also starting at 7.

Niagara Street between Bouck and Gibson streets in the city will be closed to traffic and parking at 6 p.m. to accommodate the crowd. Any cars still on Niagara Street at that time will be towed at the owner’s expense.

The bridge to Tonawanda Island from River Road will be closed to all traffic from 9:30 p.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, call the Tonawanda Recreation Event Line at 695-8659 for information regarding the show. The rain date is Saturday.
