The owner of a stolen bicycle took matters into his own hands Friday just moments after noticing his property had been taken.
Daniel R. Williams, 28, 49 Longmeadow Road, Amherst, was arrested Friday for petit larceny after he allegedly rode off on a bicycle left outside the City of Tonawanda Burger King.
When the 32-year-old owner of the bike came out from the restaurant, he noticed his bike was missing and asked a parked motorist if he’d seen anyone take it.
The driver acknowledged seeing someone ride off on the bicycle and the two drove together, to search for the alleged culprit Williams.
When he was spotted still riding near the corner of Main and Broad streets, police say the owner jumped out of the car and tackled Williams before a fight ensued.
“They started wrestling in the middle of Broad Street,” a police narrative states. “Until a few guys from the American Legion came out a broke it up.”
Those same members secured the bicycle while the owner chased Williams down the street. He was finally arrested near the corner of Sweeney and Marion streets in North Tonawanda.
Williams was held for court.

ADWI: Cherquinta L. Vann was charged with aggravated DWI and speeding at 2:04 a.m. Thursday. Vann was stopped for speeding when the officer detected the odor of alcohol, according to reports. Vann allegedly failed multiple field sobriety tests and a chemical breath test revealed a 0.24 percent blood alcohol content. Vann was held for court.
City of Tonawanda
WARRANT: Dylan R. Hayes, 58 Robert Drive, Apt. 3, surrendered Friday on a warrant for disorderly conduct. He was held for court.
WARRANT: Darren D. Mattia, 83 Cherry Ave., New York City, surrendered Friday on a bench warrant stemming from a drug arrest here. He was held for court.
WARRANT: Erin M. Friedhaber, 25, 246 Woodward Ave., upper, Town of Tonawanda, surrendered Thursday on a warrant for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. All fines were paid.
