The Town of Tonawanda is beginning its 2009 Ken-Ton Energy Efficient Holiday Decorating Contest, combining holiday cheer with environmental consciousness.
To be eligible, contestants must create a display that employs energy saving ideas using little or no electricity. LED lights, which use up to 80 percent less power than other traditional lights, are an option.
Applications are due by Dec. 4. They can be found on-line at www.tonawanda.ny.us or picked up at Town Supervisor Anthony Caruana’s office at 2919 Delaware Ave. Judging will take place on the evening of Dec. 10 and winners will be announced at the Dec. 17 town board meeting.
Six awards will be given out: most environmental efficiency, most creative, best classic, best themed, street with most holiday spirit and the supervisor’s award.
