A Sanborn man has been arrested and charged with half a dozen burglaries in the Cataract City.
Falls Police investigators believe he’s responsible for many more.
Jacques Meness, 38, 5402 Chew Road, was charged with five counts of third-degree burglary, one count of third-degree grand larceny, one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, three counts of petit larceny and a count of fourth-degree criminal mischief in connection with five burglaries and a theft from a back yard between Oct. 22 to Nov. 9.
Investigators said Meness’ one-man crime wave reached from Lewiston Road to Whirlpool Street to Clifton Avenue to Chestnut Avenue.
Meness was previously charged with burglary and grand larceny on Nov. 9 after he was caught by responding patrol officers in the 2600 block of Whirlpool Street after breaking into a home and a business in the 2600 block of Main Street.
Detectives say Meness entered a garage, in the 2800 block of Whirlpool Street at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 23, by climbing through a window. He is accused of stealing a mountain bike, a generator, a Weed Whacker, a dolly, some tools and some fishing poles.
Investigators claim Meness entered a shed in the 2800 block of Lewiston Road on Nov. 1, by breaking off a lock and hasp. They say he took $3,000 worth of fishing equipment.
On Nov. 3, detectives say Meness returned to the 2800 block of Lewiston Road, pried open the window of a shed and stole $200 worth of power tools.
Meness is accused of breaking a garage window in the 2800 block of Whirlpool Street on Nov. 9 and then stealing a snow blower. A short time later, he’s charged with forcing a padlock off a garage in the 700 block of Clifton Avenue and taking a power washer and air compressor.
Detectives said Meness admitted to them that he stole a gas grill from a back yard in the 600 block of Chestnut Avenue on Oct. 22,
“There are other burglaries we think he’s involved in,” Detective Captain Ernest Palmer said. “But he hasn’t confessed to those.”
Palmer said investigators believe Meness was breaking into homes as well as garages and sheds.
The detective chief praised the work of investigators Patrick Stack, John Conti, William Smith and Patricia McCune.
“Those four detectives did a great job tracking these cases,” Palmer said.
Detectives have recovered some of the property they say Meness took.
