Tonawanda News — Country Music Hall of Fame honoree George Jones, who was scheduled for a concert at the Riviera Theatre June 1, died Friday after being hospitalized with a fever and irregular blood pressure.
He was 81.
Jones, a Grand Ole Opry member, is regarded as one of the most influential singers in American country music. He has visited the Riviera once before, in 2011, and the show sold out.
He was set to come back June 1, Riviera Theatre representatives said. Refunds will be available to those who purchased tickets.
”We will start giving refunds May 1. Those who purchased with a credit card will receive the money directly onto their credit card,” Alanna Pohl Hughes, the assistant executive director of the theater, said. “We will be processing a check for those who paid with a cash or check.”
Those who are interested in a refund should contact the theatre at 692-2113 or stop into the box office during regular business hours.
The Rivera may be scheduling another concert for the date, but those plans are still in the works.
The theatre is also accepting condolence cards, which it will send along to the family of Jones. Email messages are also being accepted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
