Transformer blows, power outage in NT

NORTH TONAWANDA — A transformer located at River Road and Wheatfield Street blew Friday about 1:30 p.m., leaving about 720 National Grid customers without power, according to the company's website.

National Grid is working to repair the outages and estimates that the power will be restored by 3:45 p.m.

The North Tonawanda Fire Department reported to the scene and diverted traffic for about a half an hour while officials ensured there was no safety risk. Two traffic lights lost power for a little over an hour, but they are now functional.
