City of Tonawanda police search for suspicious person, car

Tonawanda News — Tonawanda City police are attempting to locate the owner of a vehicle identified by video after a 17-year-old girl reported that a middle-aged man tried to lure her into his vehicle on Saturday.

Capt. Frederic Foels said that the teenager told police that a white, clean-shaven male wearing round glasses and in his mid-to-late 40s stopped his gray Honda Civic as she waited for a bus at 1:39 p.m. at the intersection of Delaware and Elm streets. The vehicle was also described as having a sunroof and a rear spoiler.

The teenager also gave the police a description of an red and white “old license plate” with a New York registration number of DNT8899. However, several attempts to track that specific number have been inclusive.

Foels said the department successfully reached out to Niagara Frontier Regional Transportation Authority police, who used a camera on a passing bus to capture an image of the vehicle believed to be driven by the suspect.

“She was pretty spot on with the vehicle description,” Foels said. He added that investigators do not believe the incident is tied to a recent rash of suspicious men attempting to lure youths into their vehicles in Amherst and Orchard Park.

Those with questions or information on the individual who owns the Honda Civic can call the City of Tonawanda Police Department at 716-692-2121, ext 0.
