Tonawanda News — The Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas will honor Crazy Jakes as Business of the Year and Beverly Loxterman, as 2013 Citizen of the Year at its annual dinner Nov. 13 at Banchetti by Rizzo's.

Crazy Jakes, 26 Webster St., North Tonawanda was selected for its commitment to the community.

"This very successful business is celebrating its five-year anniversary and has consistently expanded to include an outdoor patio, additional banquet facilities and catering services adding employment opportunity," said Joyce Santiago, executive director of the chamber.

"In the process the restaurant acts as a catalyst for further business and improvement in the downtown area," she added.

Crazy Jakes has also immersed itself in the community by helping many local causes including the Boys & Girls Club, Twin Cities Community Outreach, and the YWCA Tonawandas along with helping create the downtown New Year’s Eve Ball Drop event, Santiago explained.

Loxterman, of North Tonawanda, will be honored for her dedication to many organizations throughout the community including the YWCA Tonawandas, Zonta Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, she is a 16-year member on the North Tonawanda Waterfront Commission, with 10 years as chairperson. She has been a Big Brother/Big Sister for six years, serving as a Gateway Harbor board member and volunteer, and is one of the original founders of the Niagara County Rape Task Force.

"Loxterman has also opened her home to more than 20 children as a foster parent," Santiago said. "The public is invited to join us in celebrating the accomplishments of the honorees."
