Tonawanda News — The Tonawanda News and the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas will hold candidate debates for municipal candidates in both the City of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda later this month.
The North Tonawanda forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Spruce Elementary School, 195 Spruce St. The City of Tonawanda forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Mullen Elementary School, 130 Syracuse St.
The News and the chamber have combined to host candidate forums for local elections for years. This year’s debate will follow a similar format. News Managing Editor Eric DuVall will serve as moderator for both events.
The forums are free and open to the public. LCTV will film the forums, which will air on cable access prior to the Nov. 5 election on public access cable.
DuVall and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joyce Santiago encouraged the public to submit questions they would like candidates to ask in advance of the event. Question suggestions can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to the chamber at 15 Webster St., North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
Questions for the North Tonawanda forum should be submitted no later than Oct. 17. Questions for the City of Tonawanda forum should be sent by Oct. 23.
Newsroom staff and representatives from the chamber’s government and policy committee will draft questions in advance of the debate. Candidates are not permitted to submit questions and they will not be made aware of questions before the event.IF YOU GO North Tonawanda • WHAT: North Tonawanda candidate debate • WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 • WHERE: Spruce Elementary School, 195 Spruce St. City of Tonawanda • WHAT: City of Tonawanda candidate debate • WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 • WHERE: Mullen Elementary School, 130 Syracuse St.
