KVIS to hold school forum

Tonawanda News — The Kenmore Village Improvement Society will hold a meeting to discuss the closures of two Kenmore-Tonawanda Union Free schools.

KVIS President Melissa Foster said the meeting will entail a discussion about the Ken-Ton board’s decision to shutter Roosevelt Elementary and Kenmore Middle School as well as a “brainstorming session” regarding the use of the soon-to-be vacant buildings.

“The purpose of this meeting is really for the community to come together,” she said. “The school closings are a huge development and it’s something that people don’t take lightly. We’re going to talk about the decisions moving forward and embrace the future put forward by the school board.”

Foster said she has extended an open invitation to the school board members and village board officials, as well as the public at large.

“Essentially we had five people on the school board affect all of us tremendously,” she said. “When something like this happens you feel powerless. We want to take this negative situation and turn it around.”

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. April 14 at the Kenmore Community Center, 135 Wilbur Ave. For additional information contact Foster at melissa@villageofkenmore.com or at 877-0477.
