NT man arraigned on rape charge

Tonawanda News —

A North Tonawanda man was arrested Saturday for a slew of charges including third-degree rape, an E-felony, following a domestic incident.

Rafael A. Williams, 41, 1176  Sherwood Ave., was also charged at 5:56 p.m. at his home with third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, second-degree harassment and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

Police said they could give few details related to the alleged crimes as the investigation continues, though Lt. Karen M. Smith said the victim divulged that the incident took place at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday morning before she fled the scene and later contacted the police. She and Williams were apparently in a relationship. Williams was arraigned Sunday in North Tonawanda City Court in front of Judge William R. Lewis. He was released on $5,000 bail. His next court appearance has yet to be determined.
