NT hires new water superintendent

Tonawanda News — The City of North Tonawanda has selected a new superintendent of water and wastewater services following months of vacancy at the post.

For some time, North Tonawanda City Clerk/Treasurer Scott Kiedrowski has served as interim superintendent of the city’s water and wastewater departments, while the search for a permanent replacement continued.

David A. Scott has been selected to fill the position that was vacated by Paula Sattleberg, who resigned from serving her term under a shared services agreement with the North Tonawanda and the City of Lockport.

Scott was chosen from a certified civil service list of possible candidates, after Mayor Rob Ortt said he interviewed a total of three applicants.

The position’s duties and salary were renegotiated by the mayor and the city’s department head union in September. Ortt said the position’s duties were streamlined to include only the water and wastewater plants.

The new salary structure results in a savings of approximately $9,000 per step, according to Ortt. The previous pay scale called for a salary range of $78,248 to $94,745 for 2013, but now stands at somewhere between $70,204 to $85,569.

Scott has more than 27 years experience working for the city, most recently as a chief operator of the wastewater treatment plant, a role he’s filled since April 2008. He has a Grade 4 Wastewater Operator License, while Ortt said he also has a solid track record of implementing and initiating processes to increase plant efficiency.

“I am pleased to announce Dave Scott as the new water/wastewater superintendent.  Dave brings over 27 years experience to the position and will be responsible for managing our most precious resource,” Ortt said. “I am confident that he will manage both our water and wastewater treatment plants in an efficient and fiscally responsible way that our taxpayers expect and deserve.”

The selection process will be finalized once the members of the common council consent to the hire. The council is expected to take action sometime before the end of the year. Scott is a resident of North Tonawanda.
