Two wanted in city man's shooting

Police believe Washburn Street resident was hit after confrontation with strangers in a corner store

Tonawanda News — LOCKPORT — Police are seeking the public’s help to identify two men involved with the Thursday shooting of a Washburn Street resident outside a convenience store.

A 46-year-old white male was shot outside the Gulf gas station and store, located on Washburn Street and Works Place alley, about 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The man was seen limping away from the scene and was found by police several hours later in a Washburn Street apartment. The man was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was reported to be in stable condition early Friday.

The man’s name is being withheld for now, because investigators believe the shooter(s) don’t know his identity and don’t want to tip them off, Detective Lt. Scott Seekins said.

Police believe the man was shot after being in a verbal confrontation with two black males inside the store.

Images of the suspects, culled from store security video footage, were turned over to the media

early Friday.

One of the suspects is “possibly” known to police, but his face is partly shielded by a hoodie in the video, making positive identification difficult, Seekins said.

Police are appealing to the public, especially store customers who were at the scene around the time of the shooting, to help identify the suspects. The Gulf station is a busy store on a busy downtown corner — Washburn and Walnut — and Seekins figures there may be up to a dozen potential witnesses to the late afternoon incident. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects should call Lockport Police Department at 433-7700.
