National Night Out events to be held tonight

Tonawanda News — National Night Out events will take place this evening in North Tonawanda and the Town of Tonawanda.

A National Night Out will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at North Tonawanda High School, 405 Meadow Drive. All are invited to attend. Police and fire officials from the city will be on hand with interactive displays, a SWAT team truck and equipment, finger printing for children 3 and up and other demonstrations and informational booths. 

Police Chief William Hall said the event is a chance for citizens to "get out and meet your neighbors have some contact with law enforcement." 

In the Town of Tonawanda, National Night Out will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Lincoln Arena at the corner of Parker Boulevard and Decatur Road. The event is rain or shine.

Activities include demonstrations by Tank the police dog, the Masons' Child ID program, hula hoop and jump rope contests, pet safety presented by Nickel City Vets, fire department trucks and demonstrations, the town paramedics, a helicopter landing, face painting, balloon animals, a petting zoo, pony rides, live music by Black Rock Blues Band and more.

A Little Night Out will also take place starting at 6:15 p.m. on the lawn of Kenmore Middle School, Delaware Road, Kenmore, The Kenmore Children's Concert Series will present the music of Sol y Sambra and other activities.

The Little Night Out concert this year is presented in memory of former Village Police Chief Carl LaCorte.
