Tonawanda News — The Tonawanda City School Board will hold a special meeting to discuss the district’s capital project Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Tonawanda High School Library, located at 600 Fletcher St.

The board will consider taking action to move construction of the new football stadium along in an effort to keep it on schedule. The board is hoping the stadium will be complete by the start of the season in August.

The bids for the music wing expansion in the high school came in drastically over budget, so that portion of the project will likely be delayed as the board decides how to handle the overages.

And because the bids for the electrical and plumbing work were for the entire project, including the stadium and the music wing, Pike Co. representatives advised the board to “carve out” the stadium’s portion of those bids, and rebid it so construction can begin in the spring.

Gloria Ciminelli, of Pike Co., pressed the board to hold a special meeting to rebid that work at a public hearing Thursday.

“To be on schedule, you really must do that now,” she said.

Board President Jackie Smilinich also said the school board will consider voting on a resolution that would shorten the polling hours for the board elections by three hours.
