Jeff Glatz of North Tonawanda was named the new director of the Orleans County Nursing Home.

• Den leaders Ron Swart and Larry Rudolph with members of Cub Scout Pack 617 from North Tonawanda toured the Tonawanda News building.

1988 — 25 years ago

• The NT Council agreed to consider building a senior citizen center to replace the present facility leased by the city at the Carousel Apartments.

Jim Schroeder and Millstream Lanes sponsored the Schroeder’s Singles Classic for men 50 and older who were to compete in a scratch singles bowling competition.

1963 — 50 years ago

• Buffalo Savings Bank – the Bank with the Gold Dome – was giving away a free coin bank desk set, a plastic replica of the bank building.

• Public officials from all levels of government and representatives from various agencies and organizations all agreed that the tolls on the Niagara section of the Thruway needed to be eliminated.

1943 — 50 years ago

• A Tonawanda policeman insisted on arresting two men in front of the Columbus McKinnon plant for distributing handbills saying “DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER: YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOUR VOTE.” The little pamphlet had been distributed by the hundreds in Western New York without incident and in other Tonawanda plants.

• North Tonawanda Common Council appointed Donald A. Bush of 189 Lincoln Ave., as a member of the Niagara County Board of Supervisors to succeed his father the late J. Wesley Bush who served as a member of the board for 20 years, three as chairman.
