Deerwood opens season

Tonawanda News — Deerwood Golf Course, 1818 Sweeney St., North Tonawanda will open for the 2013 season at 7 a.m. Friday, and this year has added a new phone app and website.

Daily and season passes are available from 8:30 a.m. through 4:45 p.m. weekdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Department of Youth, Recreation & Parks, 500 Wheatfield St.

A phone app that can be downloaded to any smartphone, allowing patrons to reserve tee times with their phone as well as have immediate contact numbers, directions, weather and course conditions, access to Fairways Restaurant, the scorecard, special events and tournament information, a picture gallery, hole by hole description, coupons, and rules, among other features.

“We feel this smartphone app will be an effective marketing tool for our golf course” NT Mayor Robert Ortt, said.

Patricia Brosius, director of the Youth, Recreation and Parks department, said the proactive communication tool is good for the golf community.

In addition, a new website has launched at where golfers can receive the latest information, make reservations, get an aerial view of each hole, apply for tournaments and view the latest rates.

In addition, a new Facebook page for Deerwood has been added where golfers can share real-time information. Just search for “Deerwood Golf Course” on Facebook.
