Mount leads in high school rankings

Tonawanda News — Mount St. Mary Academy was rated as the top high school in the Tonawandas, coming in at fifth place out of 135 institutions in the Western New York area.

The school also received subject awards in English/foreign languages, science and social studies, and moved up from its ranking last year of seventh. St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute wasn’t far behind at 11th, and also received subject awards in English/foreign languages and social studies. St Joe’s moved up one spot this year.

Cardinal O’Hara came in 38th, Tonawanda Middle and High School came in 61st, Kenmore East was ranked 63rd and Kenmore West was ranked 67th.

North Tonawanda came in at 91st and CS for Applied Technologies at 100th.

Business First analyzed graduation rates and test scores for high schools across the region, using four years of data collected by the New York State Education Department. The schools’ performance on four core subjects are used to come up with the standings.

City Honors came in first this year, replacing Nardin, which had led the rankings for seven years.

Buffalo Seminary, Canisius High School, Nichols School and Park School of Buffalo do not take the regents exams and are not included in the rankings. 

Business First also released tuition information for the area private high schools. St. Joe’s tuition is $10,540, Mount St. Mary Academy’s tuition is $9,275 and Cardinal O’Hara’s tuition is $7,500.
