Tonawanda News — The Ken-Ton School Employees Association, which has been negotiating with the district 18 months, has filed negotiation impasse papers, a statement from Superintendent Mark Mondanaro’s office states.
The union’s contract expired on June 30, 2013.
The district recently approved two other sets of employment contracts. One of the agreements covers per diem substitute teachers in the Kenmore Teachers Association. The new agreement covers 2013 to 2016 and increases the full day rate of pay from $83 to $85 over the course of the next two years. The half day pay rate will remain at $56.
The second agreement covers employees who are not represented by a union. They work in student services, human resources, business and special education positions. There are no automatic step increases for the group of employees, and under the contract, their salary increases will amount to 1.8 percent, 1.9 percent and 2 percent over the next three years.
All the employees will also increase their health care contribution, and starting with the 2016-2017 year, will give an extra 1 percent.
“Substitute teachers and our non-represented employees perform very important daily functions for our school district. These agreements clearly reflect the changed economy we are working in,” Mondanaro said. “It is imperative that all employees continue to have a revised view regarding salary and benefit expectations.”
