Tonawanda News — A Cambria teen was charged Sunday with a misdemeanor count of falsely reporting an incident after he allegedly posted on his Facebook page a message indicating the Cana Fest in the Tonawandas wold be bombed.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office received a complaint who was concerned about a post that a 16-year-old had made. The posting allegedly said "Spoiler alert: canal fest gets bombed."
A deputy contacted the teen, who said he posted the note as a joke, adding he thought it would be a "funny prank" because several of his friends were going to attend Canal Fest in North Tonawanda.
The teen's mother was advised of the situation.
New York state penal law states that a person is guilty of falsely reporting an incident in the third degree when, knowing the information is false, "initiates or circulates a false report or warning of an alleged occurrence of a crime, catastrophe or emergency under circumstances in which it is not unlikely that public alarm or inconvenience will result."
