TOWN: Girl Scouts organize Festival of Trees

Tonawanda News — The Girl Scouts of Western New York and the Ken-Ton Service Unit are organizing a service project to provide Christmas trees to those who need them.

The scouts are in need of artificial trees up to six feet high. Ornaments, lights, decorations, tree skirts, toppers and stands are also needed. To donate, contact Jessica Lawrence at kenton.girlscouts@gmail.com or 253-1378.

Girl Scouts will be setting up the trees at the Sheridan Parkside Community Center starting Dec. 2 until Dec. 5 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. They will be available for viewing on Dec. 6 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and a formal presentation will take place at 7 p.m.

Trees will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. To request a tree, contact Lawrence by email or phone, and leave a name and phone number. Pickup appointments will then be made sometime between Dec. 9 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., or Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Families receiving trees are responsible for transportation and setup.

An ambassador Girl Scout began the Festival of Trees project 18 years ago.

“It is an honor to continue this tradition by expanding the program,” a statement from the scouts said.
