• The Tonawanda Recreation Department offered a free Family Swim Program at Highland Elementary School that will run every Sunday until April.

• Favorite television programs of the day included St. Elswhere, Dynasty, Highway to Heaven and Magnum P.I.

1942 — 70 years ago

• Persons interested in nutrition or canteen were urged to attend the organization meeting of a Red Cross nutrition class.

• In the comics, the Phantom was actively taking part in the Allied Forces’ war against the Axis Powers.
