Tonawanda News — The Town of Tonawanda Republican Committee announced Wednesday that it has endorsed Russell Riggio Jr. to run for highway superintendent.
This fall, Riggio will face incumbent William Swanson, who has served in the role since 2011, when he was unanimously appointed after a retirement. Prior to Swanson’s appointment, he served as the leader of the town’s forestry division, the town’s website states. He has been endorsed by the town Democratic party committee.
Mark Tramont, chair of the Republican Committee, pointed to Riggio’s experience in a statement announcing the endorsement.
“When you combine the work he did with his dad Russ Sr. at family-owned Rigger Construction with the last 14 years at the Erie County Highway Department, Russ has had the opportunity to train and work in many areas from equipment repair to street resurfacing to manpower allocation,” Tramont said.
Riggio said he is looking forward to the race.
“As highway superintendent I pledge to bring focus to the department in areas that will increase services, reduce costs and put the concerns and needs of residents and taxpayers first,” he said.
