Tonawanda News — A lucky lady from Rochester hit it big Thursday at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel — to the tune of half a million dollars. At 1:50 p.m., she reached the bonus round on the Geisha Millioni$er slot machine by Aristocrat and correctly unveiled the three “Grand jackpot” coins, winning $500,004.

The player, identified as Monica, played the maximum bet of $2 on the progressive penny slot machine. She hit the life-changing jackpot after playing 10 minutes on the game.

The woman said she felt a state of disbelief upon winning the jackpot, especially since she selected the three correct coins by looking away from the screen. “I have two favorite machines, and Geisha is one of them that I always play,” she said. “When I won, I phoned my children and told them Christmas came early.”

Monica and her husband make the trip from Rochester to Niagara Falls frequently. The 90-minute drive doubles as an opportunity to see one of her family members in Buffalo.

Besides sharing part of the winnings with her four children and eight grandchildren, Monica and her husband plan on enjoying a cross-country road trip soon. She certainly plans to visit a few casinos along the way, but looks forward to returning to Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel — her favorite casino. And soon, she’ll experience a completely new atmosphere on the gaming floor, as the casino is nearly halfway complete with a $26 million major renovation project and should be fully transformed by the end of winter.

“So far, I like what I’m seeing,” said Monica of the recently opened areas. “The bigger aisles are nicer and will help me get to my favorite machines faster. The new layout is brighter, pretty and clean. I’m excited to see what the place will look like when it’s all finished.”
