Tonawanda News — Oakland University women’s basketball got its first win of the season at the expense of Niagara University, as the Golden Grizzlies sent the Purple Eagles into the Thanksgiving break with a 71-57 loss.
Meghan McGuinness led Niagara with 15 points and three rebounds while Victoria Rampado added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The teams turned the ball over numerous times for the first three minutes of the game, which remained scoreless until Oakland’s Amy Carlton netted a three-pointer at two minutes and nine seconds into the first half. The Grizzlies never lost their lead and went into the half leading the Purple Eagles, 38-26, boosted by a ten-point run midway through the opening period.
Niagara kept pace with Oakland in the second half but just couldn’t stage a rally to get within reach of their hosts.
Olivia Nash led the Grizzlies (1-5) in scoring with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Niagara (1-4) does not return to game action until Wednesday, December 4, when they travel to face Kent State. They will play their next home game one week from Saturday, when they welcome Robert Morris University to the Gallagher Center.
