Man arrested for shoplifting, drugs

Tonawanda News — A North Tonawanda man was arrested Thursday after he stole items from a dollar store and then resisted arrest, according to police.

Maarten W. Keuning, 61, of Oliver Street, was arrested Thursday at 3:14 p.m. for resisting arrest, petit larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He allegedly stole cheese, cat food and razor blades from the Family Dollar located on Niagara Street in the City of Tonawanda. By the time officers arrived, he was at the Rite Aid on Seymour Street and encountered the officers outside of the store, near the back.

“He started fighting with the officers,” Lt. Fredric Foels said. “It went downhill.”

Officers then found hydrocodone pills on Keuning.

He was held for court.
