• Three Erie County Legislators, including Chuck Swanick, launched a county-wide campaign to recycle the mountains of paperwork generated by the county.

1963 — 50 years ago

Laurence P. Humphrey, president of the Niagara Savings and Loan Association, stepped down from his office, and Edward C. Gruen, secretary-treasurer of the association since 1927, was elected to replace him.

1943 — 70 years ago

George Campas, one-man War Bond Campaign, and operator of the Dinette on Main near Goundry Street, had promoted the sale of $24,000 worth of War Bonds – all sold across the counter of his eatery.

Janet Herschell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Herschell of Elmwood Park, received notice to report at Stillwater, Okla., following her recent induction into the WAVES.
