• A domesticated Amazon parrot flew out of its owner’s NT home. The bird, Joanne, had a yellow face with red markings throughout her green-feather coat.

Eleanor Krull Olcott Tiffany of the City of Tonawanda celebrated her 100th birthday.

John W. Littler was commissioned as the new principal of St. Mark Lutheran School on Oliver Street.

• The Town Boys’ Club Royals captured the Erie County 15-16-year-old baseball title having defeated the Buffalo Griffins 4-3 in the playoff championship.

1963 — 50 years ago

• The City of Tonawanda received $89,000 to construct a new fire hall at State and Young streets. The new building replaces the wooden building used by Delaware Hose as its fire station at 21 Delaware St.

Bishop James McNulty left Buffalo to attend the Second Vatican Council in Rome.
