First NT veterans forum on tap

— — The first in a series of quarterly veterans forums will be held at North Tonawanda City Hall Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.

City Clerk-Treasurer Scott Kiedrowski said he is sponsoring the four yearly veterans meetings in order to foster a change in the relationship between local government and civic groups.

The meeting on Monday will feature North Tonawanda Mayor Rob Ortt, a veteran of Afghanistan, and City Assessor Flora Carozzolo, who will discuss available tax exemptions to all veterans wishing to attend.

“(Carozzolo) will be on hand to go over the many exemptions available to the veteran community and help guide anyone that may be having trouble receiving their exemption,” Kiedrowski wrote in a press release.

Council members in recent weeks have discussed the possibility of adding a tax exemption for mothers of soldiers killed in U.S. wars, known as the Gold Star Mothers, to mirror an exemption featured on the county level.

Featured guests at future forums will be announced.
