THURSDAY: Fire destroys barn, farm equipment inside (5:14 p.m.)

By April Amadon

An early-morning fire destroyed a barn on Hartland Road on Thursday.

A passerby called 911 about 2:51 a.m. to report a large metal barn on fire at 3334 Hartland Road.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, the barn was fully engulfed in flames, the report said.

Fire crews from Hartland, Gasport, Middleport and Terry’s Corners responded to the scene, along with Tri-Town Ambulance.

As fire crews worked on the blaze, deputies assisted the barn’s owner with getting cattle out of a nearby building safely.

The barn is considered a total loss.

Also lost in the fire were an antique car and miscellaneous fire equipment.

The investigation into the fire is continuing
