THURSDAY: State sets tours for old Falls armory auction (4:32 p.m.)

The New York State Office of General Services will hold a public auction, on Oct. 2, of the former National Guard armory on Main Street in the Falls.

Before the auction, the agency will hold an open house on September 17, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., with other times and dates for tours available by calling 518-474-2195.

The auction will be held at 11 a.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 745 Main St. Registration for the auction will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The 38,300 square-foot former armory was built in 1895, with a two-story brick addition constructed in 1948. A 4,000 square-foot attached garage and loading area with four overhead doors is also put of the property.

The interior of the original structure has some oak woodwork and pressed tin ceilings.

The first floor has a lobby, classrooms, offices, drill hall and storage vaults. The second floor consists of classrooms, offices and a club and billiards room.

There is a partial basement with some crawl space. The kitchen, mess hall and rifle ranges are all located in the basement. T

he facility is equipped with a wet sprinkler system and two older gas-fueled boilers.

The minimum bid for the property will be $60,000.
