VACATION HOMES: In the City of Tonawanda

Debbie Jaeger rents vacation homes. She has four units and gets more requests than she can handle.

Who would have guessed that the City of Tonawanda is such a hot spot?

“People ask me,” she said, “who would want to vacation in Tonawanda?”

The answer is easy, according to Jaeger, owner of Erie Heights Apartments and Vacation Homes. For one, “snowbirds,” the people who have left the area to go to

warmer climates and want to return to their old stomping grounds for the summer, or businessmen and their families who are relocating to the area and who need a temporary place to stay.

During a recent tour of several of her vacation rentals, Jaeger unlocked doors to newly renovated living spaces with wood floors, skylights, oriental and designer bathrooms with sunken tubs. One unit on Wheeler Street, converted from an old delicatessen, utilized the deli’s old counter, restyled as a kitchen island.

Bonnie Certo of Houston occupies one of the units with her husband, who is relocating to a job as a manufacturing manager at Cameron Compression in Buffalo.

While the Certos wait to move into a home they have purchased in the Town of

Tonawanda, they have found that Jaeger considered all their needs, supplying the vacation home they are using
