Tonawanda News — Two people were injured late Wednesday night when a driver in a car ran a red light at Erie Avenue and Walck Road in North Tonawanda striking a pick-up truck.

The driver of the car, Matthew Laughlan, 29, of North Tonawanda, was taken to ECMC for a spleen injury, according to North Tonawanda Police Chief William Hall.

Laughlan was charged with running a red light, failure to yield at an intersection and DWI. He refused a blood test at ECMC, Hall said.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Kevin Baum, 43, of North Tonawanda, was taken to DeGraff Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Neither vehicle had passengers and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to Hall.

A portion of the road was shut down by police for a time while they conducted their investigation and has since been reopened.
